Music and singing are a big part of life here at Alexander House, and the residents love choosing hymns to sing. Some hymns bring back memories of their childhood while other hymns are new to them.
The residents always look forward to our services at Alexander House. This month we had Prayers and Hymns with Debs, our dedicated volunteer, Keychange’s Prayers and Togetherness (online service encompassing about 5 Keychange communities) and Emmanuel Church’s specially recorded service for us which was a real hit with the people living here who love seeing a friendly face. The residents are also very keen to take part in services choosing hymns and reading out prayers and readings.
During exercise sessions, even online ones, residents grab the chance to be active with both hands and are really engaged throughout. They love showing how active they can be; the only trouble is trying to get them to slow down!
On 28 June 2020 Anne Elkan celebrated her 93rd birthday with her daughters Elizabeth and Juliet in a socially distanced get-together with a birthday cake, presents, flowers and smartphone call with Juliet’s elder son. Anne also has a son Charles in the United States and he called on a smartphone with his daughter.
The lovely ladies of Alexander House really enjoyed the clothing donations from ‘Angel Warrior.’ The glamorous scarves, from India, really made them laugh and put smiles on their faces.

Antonio was so pleased with the results of his haircut by Carol, our housekeeper, that he insisted on buying her a big bouquet of beautiful flowers to say thank you.
